Tuxedo Black and White Cats

If you’ve ever shared your home with a tuxedo or black cat, you know they’re anything but aloof. These sleek, shadowy companions are bursting with personality—caring, quirky, and often downright hilarious.

My love affair with Tuxedo cats began in 2007 when I had the incredible good fortune to adopt my beloved Molly. She was nine months old and a bundle of energy! She loved to play and race around my small apartment as if on a mission. She had to be in the middle of…..EVERYTHING! She greeted me at the door when I came home, jumped on any lap that would have her and loved to be around company. 2 years later, I brought home a positively adorable 4 month old Tuxie that I named Bailey. She was high maintenance, chatty, non-stop activity, super attached and a bit neurotic….I loved her!!

Molly passed after 14 years together and Bailey did not take it well at all. She stopped eating, playing, cuddling or interacting. She was in deep grief and watching her pain was unbearable. Enter Chelsea, just shy of 3 months old and ready to launch her own special brand of lunacy! Bailey’s spark came back and all was right in the world!

Tuxedo cats, with their dapper coats and expressive eyes, are the comedians of the feline world. They leap, tumble, and zoom through the house with wild abandon, only to stop mid-chaos and stare at you like you’re the one acting strange. They’re clever, curious, and often have a mischievous streak that keeps you on your toes—and laughing.

What makes these cats so special isn’t just their looks—it’s their spirit. They’re the ones who sit beside you during quiet moments, who sense when you need comfort, and who bring a little bit of wild joy into your everyday routine. They’re not just pets; they’re family.

The newest member of my feline posse is a 3-year-old all black cat named Emmy. Bailey had passed away a few months prior and although I wasn’t looking for another cat, Emmy was looking for me. Despite the old myths and superstitions, black cats are some of the most affectionate and loyal pets you’ll ever meet. They curl up beside you when you’re feeling low, follow you from room to room like little shadows, and greet you at the door with chirps and meows that sound suspiciously like full-blown conversations. She is a love bug and wants to cuddle and snuggle and play……..until she doesn’t! That’s my unpredictable girl!

Although she is jet black to the casual observer, she does, in fact, have some very small areas where a tiny bit of white shines through, so she is my first honorary Tuxie!

So here’s to the black cats and tuxedo cats—the funny, caring, crazy little creatures who remind us that love comes in all colors, and sometimes, with a touch of fur and a whole lot of attitude!
