Here comes a rant, fueled by my frustration and anger over what I see as the erosion of the America that I grew up in. I keep reading things about what the greatest threat to America is right now…”White Men” “Immigrant Surge” “Black Lives Matter” “Racism” It’s none of these things. It’s apathy, plain & simple. Bad things happen when good people do nothing. Politicians can’t stop hate, WE must. Hate is not acceptable. Violence is not acceptable. Racism is not acceptable. We MUST refuse to tolerate these things in any form, on any side of the aisle. The dysfunction and bottle neck that is our Government (and I include both parties) cannot be the excuse we hide behind to do nothing, as we watch our core beliefs, values and morals attacked on a daily basis. We used to be able to agree to disagree. We used to be able to listen to someone else’s opinion, and work out compromises. The very fabric of our society is fraying at the edges and we MUST repair it, NOW.
So Vote for Change. March for Peace. Protest Injustice. Volunteer to help those in need. Show Tolerance for conflicting opinions, but do not turn a blind eye to evil, reprehensible thoughts and actions. In other words, BE AN AMERICAN. Remember this is the land of the free, the home of the brave. We are supposed to be a shining light for the world of tolerance, inclusion, equality, freedom and justice for all citizens. This is our legacy to preserve, and we must not tarnish it. So many people have fought and died to give us the rights and privileges we now enjoy, we cannot allow those same privileges to be slowly and methodically stripped away. We deserve more. We are better than that. We HAVE to be better than that.
Love thy neighbor……not just if he/she agrees with you. Because they are YOUR neighbor.
